Dibu Martínez's Future Takes a Turn After Key Decision by Aston Villa: Is He Staying?
Aston Villa reaffirmed its stance on the future of Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez and definitively cooled the possibility of a transfer to Juventus. The English club maintained its firm economic position, while the Italian management decided to abandon negotiations, considering the cost of the operation to be too high.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specializes in transfers, Juventus officially informed Aston Villa that they would not continue discussions for the Argentine goalkeeper. The decision came after several days of internal analysis and was solely based on economic issues, as the Turin institution deemed the conditions demanded by the English club to exceed their possibilities.
According to information published by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus had identified Dibu Martínez as their main target to strengthen the goal for the upcoming season. The need arose from a scenario where none of the four goalkeepers working under Luciano Spalletti managed to establish themselves as undisputed starters.
The Italian management made various attempts to bridge the gap, but Aston Villa did not change its stance and maintained its demand of 12 million euros to part with the world champion with the Argentine national team.
Fabrizio Romano summarized the outcome of the negotiation with a blunt statement: "Juve considers that the transfer costs are too high", which is why the club decided to terminate the discussions.
Days earlier, the Juventus coach had publicly admitted that the Argentine goalkeeper was one of the players being monitored by the club during this transfer market.
"Dibu Martínez is a great goalkeeper and a player who wants to leave his team this summer. We are interested in him because we seek competition in the goalkeeper role, although we currently have two great goalkeepers," Spalletti stated after a preseason friendly against Standard Liège.
The coach also referred to the complexity of the transfer market. "We know it is a difficult transfer market, but we are right there in the office, with the executives, with the general director. We have known each other for many years and are constantly on the phone trying to find solutions," he explained.
While Juventus was analyzing alternatives, Aston Villa never changed its stance regarding the future of the Mar del Plata native. The management considers that the goalkeeper remains a fundamental piece for the sports project and has no intention of negotiating his departure in this market.
The club's director of football operations, Damian Vidagany, was categorical in establishing the institutional position. "Martínez will stay with us. We have no intention of letting him go this summer. The team needs his dedication and vast experience, and he is a very important element in our project for the next season," he assured.
After ruling out the signing of the Argentine goalkeeper, Juventus began working on other names to strengthen the position. According to the Italian press, Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham and Noah Atubolu from Freiburg now appear among the main alternatives for a team looking to rebuild after finishing sixth in the last Serie A and qualifying for the Europa League.
