CRCL stock closed at $75.59 on August 13, 2026 — roughly 54% below its 52-week high of $164.64 and down about 20% year-to-date while the S&P 500 gained 13%. The stock's problem is not USDC adoption, which keeps growing. It is that Circle Internet Group makes almost all of its money from interest on the Treasuries backing USDC, and the Federal Reserve is cutting.

That single sentence explains more of CRCL's 2026 chart than any product headline. This piece breaks down where the revenue actually comes from, what the August 5 earnings print changed, why Wall Street's price targets now span $38 to $160, and how traders are getting exposure to CRCL outside NYSE hours.

What Circle actually sells, and why CRCL stock trades like a bond

Circle issues USDC, the second-largest stablecoin. Users hand over dollars; Circle holds short-dated U.S. Treasuries and cash against them and keeps the yield. That yield is the business.

CRCL Stock in 2026: Why Rate Cuts Now Drive Circle's Price

In Q2 2026, reported August 5, reserve income was $667.7 million out of $701 million total revenue and reserve income. Everything else — subscription and services, the Arc ecosystem, developer products — was $34 million.

    Onchain transaction volume$14.8T+151% YoY

    Source: Circle Q2 2026 results, August 5, 2026.

Two rows carry the story. The reserve return rate fell 66 basis points in a single quarter — that is the Fed showing up directly in the income statement. And distribution costs of $410.4 million ate 61% of reserve income, most of it paid to Coinbase to keep USDC in front of users. Circle renewed that Coinbase agreement on unchanged terms, which removed a bear case but also locked in the toll.

The better way to read CRCL stock is as a leveraged short position on front-end rates wrapped in a growth-stock multiple. Circulation can grow 19% year over year and revenue still stalls if yields fall faster.

Is CRCL stock a good investment right now?

The honest answer is that professionals cannot agree, and the size of the disagreement is itself the most useful data point on this stock.

    ViewPrice targetImplied vs. $75.59
    S&P Global consensus (24 analysts, "Buy")$143.48+90%

    Street low$77.00+2%

A 4x spread between the highest and lowest target is not normal for a $22.6 billion company. It exists because analysts are modeling two different businesses. Bulls price Arc, Circle's institutional Layer-1 with a September 16 mainnet launch and founding validators including BlackRock, Mastercard, Visa and DTCC, as a second revenue engine that eventually decouples Circle from rates. Bears price a rate-sensitive interest-margin business paying 60% of its gross yield to a distribution partner, now facing Open USD — the Visa- and Coinbase-backed stablecoin that launched in June with more than 140 institutional backers and knocked 17% off CRCL in a single session on June 30.

At a P/E of 42.9 on consensus 2026 EPS of about $1.05, the market is already paying for some version of the bull case. What it is not paying for is certainty.

The competitive threat is real, but the market-share panic is overdone

Open USD's launch was the worst day of CRCL's 2026, and the reaction made sense: a consortium with Visa and Coinbase behind it is not a startup competitor. But the June data showed USDC still handling about 70% of stablecoin transaction volume, and circulation reached $73.3 billion at quarter-end.

The more important point is where the pressure lands. New entrants rarely take share by being better; they take it by paying distributors more. If Open USD bids up the cost of shelf space at wallets and exchanges, Circle's problem shows up as rising distribution costs, not falling circulation. Watch that $410.4 million line in Q3 more closely than the market-cap rankings.

One genuine bright spot: Circle raised full-year other revenue guidance to $310–330 million from $150–170 million, largely on a $242 million ARC token pre-sale booked in Q2, with roughly 75% of milestone revenue expected in 2026. It is still small next to reserve income, but it is the first evidence that the non-rate business can move the needle.

How to trade CRCL price moves 24/7 on WEEX

Here is the structural problem for anyone trading CRCL on news: the NYSE is open 32.5 hours a week. Circle's catalysts are not.

FOMC commentary, stablecoin regulation, Arc mainnet milestones, and crypto-market risk-off moves all land outside the session. If the Arc launch on September 16 slips, or a rate decision reprices the front end, a cash-equity holder waits for the bell.

WEEX lists a CRCL/USDT perpetual contract that trades continuously. The underlying reference is CRCLON, a tokenized CRCL share issued by Ondo Global Markets on Ethereum (contract 0x3632DEa96A953C11dac2f00b4A05a32CD1063fAE), with about 1.403 million tokens outstanding and a tokenized market value near $106 million as of August 14, 2026 — a fraction of a percent of Circle's $22.6 billion equity market cap.

Ongoing costBroker commissionTrading fee plus funding every 8 hours
    Dividends / votesYesNo

Those last three rows are where people get hurt. A perpetual gives you the price, not the asset. Funding is charged every eight hours, so a directional position held through a quiet month bleeds even if the thesis is right. And 24/7 quoting does not mean 24/7 depth — spreads on stock perpetuals widen materially when the underlying cash market is closed, which is exactly when the headline you are trading tends to print.

WEEX is currently running a TradFi trading campaign with a $100,000 prize pool across gold and stock pairs, open to users who have not previously traded TradFi products. Zero-fee volume does not count toward it — worth knowing before sizing trades around it. The full contract list and listing details are in the US stock perpetuals announcement, and live pairs are on the WEEX markets page.

What to watch before the next CRCL move

Rank the catalysts by how much they actually move the model:

    1. Fed policy on the front end. Every 25bp cut compresses the reserve return rate. This is the dominant variable and it is out of Circle's hands.
    2. Q3 distribution costs. If they climb faster than reserve income, competition is winning regardless of what circulation says.
    3. Arc mainnet, September 16. Not a revenue event yet. Treat it as evidence about whether the rate-independent business is credible.
    4. USDC circulation trajectory. Circle itself has signaled circulation may shrink into year-end — a soft print here removes the growth cushion.

The setup that would genuinely reprice CRCL stock is rates stabilizing while Arc-related revenue compounds. The setup that validates the $38 target is rate cuts continuing while distribution costs rise. Right now the tape is closer to the second.

    FAQ

    1. Why has CRCL stock fallen so far in 2026?

Falling short-term Treasury yields compressed the interest income Circle earns on USDC reserves — the reserve return rate dropped 66 basis points in Q2 2026 alone — while competition from Open USD raised doubts about future market share. Adoption metrics stayed strong; the margin did not.

    2. Does Circle make money from USDC growth or from interest rates?

Both, but rates dominate. Reserve income was $667.7 million of $701 million in total Q2 2026 revenue. USDC circulation grew 19% year over year and total revenue still rose only 7%.

    3. What is CRCLON and how is it different from CRCL shares?

CRCLON is a tokenized asset issued by Ondo Global Markets that tracks the price of Circle Internet Group stock on-chain. It is the reference for the CRCL perpetual on WEEX. Holding it or trading the perpetual gives you price exposure only — no share ownership, dividends, or voting rights.

    4. What do analysts forecast for CRCL stock?

Targets range from $38 (Morgan Stanley, cut August 3, 2026) to $160, with consensus estimates clustering between $121 and $143. Consensus 2026 EPS sits near $1.05. That dispersion reflects genuine disagreement about whether Arc offsets rate compression, not a settled view.

    5. Can I trade CRCL on weekends?

Not as a share — the NYSE is closed. CRCL/USDT perpetual futures on WEEX trade 24/7, though liquidity is thinner and spreads wider when U.S. cash markets are shut.

    6. Is the CRCL perpetual on WEEX the same as owning the stock?

No. It is a USDT-settled derivative tracking the price. There is no share ownership, no dividend entitlement, funding is charged every eight hours, and leverage can liquidate a position that a cash shareholder would simply hold through.

    Risk Warning

Crypto assets and derivatives are highly volatile and can result in partial or total loss of capital. CRCL perpetual futures carry additional layers of risk beyond the underlying equity: leverage can liquidate a position on a move that a shareholder would survive; funding payments accrue every eight hours regardless of direction; liquidity on tokenized stock perpetuals thins sharply when U.S. cash markets are closed, widening spreads exactly when news breaks. The tokenized reference asset introduces issuer and smart-contract risk separate from Circle itself, and tokenized-equity products face evolving regulatory treatment that may restrict availability by region. Corporate actions such as splits or dividends can cause abrupt price gaps or early settlement. Circle's own earnings are directly exposed to interest-rate policy outside the company's control.
