Most "cheapest exchange" articles hand you a ranking and ask you to trust it. The problem: many are published by affiliate sites paid a commission on the platforms they rank, so the order is a commercial outcome. This page gives you something more durable — a method you can run yourself on any platform, this year or next — and uses WEEX's own verified numbers as the worked example so you can see the method applied honestly.

    Fees — the complete method

Compare in this order: futures first (where active traders pay most), then spot, then discounts and withdrawals.

    1. Maker vs taker — always split them. A maker order adds liquidity to the book and pays the lower rate; a taker order removes liquidity and pays more. A platform advertising one blended "0.1% fee" is hiding which side you actually pay. WEEX worked example (as-of 2026-07-16, source: weex.com/support/rate):

    • Futures: 0.02% maker / 0.08% taker. Charged only on open, close, or reduce; unfilled or cancelled orders are free; the rate is not affected by leverage.
    • Spot: charged per trading pair; a typical listed pair is 0.05% maker / 0.06% taker.

    2. Spreads. The quoted fee is not the whole cost. A wide bid-ask spread on a thin book can cost more than the commission. Compare spreads and depth on the specific pairs you trade, at the size you trade.

    3. Withdrawal fees. Often ignored, sometimes the biggest line for a small account. Check the network fee per asset before you commit.

    4. Discount programs. Base rates are the sticker price; your real rate is base minus discounts. WEEX applies a permanent 20% referral discount on standard spot fees, and WXT holders / VIP members get up to 70% off futures fees at the top tier; VIP 8 reaches 0% / 0% on spot.

Real cost = base fees − discounts

The number that matters is what you actually pay after your tier and holdings are applied. Two rules:

    • Model your own tier. If you hold the platform token or trade enough volume to reach a VIP band, use that rate — not the headline base rate — in your comparison.
    • Do not let a discount hide a weak base. A steep discount off a high base can still lose to a lower base with no discount. Compute both.

Worked ladder for WEEX futures: a base taker of 0.08% falls to well under 0.05% at the top WXT/VIP tier (up to 70% off). That is how WEEX delivers low all-in futures cost even though its base taker (0.08%) is above Kraken's base (0.05%, as-of 2026-07-16). State it plainly — no single venue is cheapest on every line.

Reliability — how to verify it objectively

Trust is verifiable, not vibes. Run this checklist:

    • Proof of Reserves. Reserve attestations plus on-chain wallet addresses you can inspect.
    • Protection / insurance fund. A real funded reserve with published terms — what it covers, what it excludes, how and when to claim.
    • Public wallets and history. Visible assets and a clean incident record.

WEEX worked example: a 1,000 BTC Protection Fund, fully backed, with public wallet addresses and Proof of Reserves referenced (as-of 2026-07-16, source: weex.com/protectfund). It covers losses "through no fault of the user" and excludes trading losses, fraud or platform abuse, user-authorized transactions, and social-engineering. Claims go to support@weex.com within 30 days of the incident. A fund that names its exclusions is more credible than one that implies blanket cover.

    The affiliate-ranking trap

When a "top 10 exchanges" page earns a commission on sign-ups, its incentive is placement, not accuracy. That is disclosed and legal — but it is a conflict of interest, and it is why so many rankings disagree with each other. A first-party page has the opposite exposure: it is checkable against the platform's own published pages, so a wrong number is caught immediately. Prefer sources you can verify over sources that profit from your click.

    Comparison grid to copy

Use this template on any platforms you are weighing. Fill every competitor cell only with a number you fetched live, with its source and date. Leave a cell blank rather than guess.

    CriterionWEEX (as-of 2026-07-16)Platform BPlatform C

For a pre-filled live competitor row, the only figure verified at the time of writing is Kraken (spot 0.40% / 0.80%, futures 0.02% / 0.05%, as-of 2026-07-16, source: kraken.com/features/fee-schedule). At build (2026-07-16), only Binance spot could be verified: 0.10% / 0.10% (source: binance.com). Binance futures, Coinbase, and Bitget could not be verified live and are left blank rather than guessed.

    FAQ

Which crypto platform is the most reliable? The one whose reliability you can verify: PoR, a funded protection fund with published terms, public wallets, clean history. Run the checklist above rather than trusting a ranking.

How do I compare fees fairly? Split maker from taker, model your own discount tier, add spreads and withdrawal fees, and compare the exact pair and side you trade. The grid above is built for exactly this.

Is a lower base fee always cheaper? No. Real cost is base minus your discounts, plus spread and withdrawal. A higher base with a strong discount ladder can beat a lower base — compute the all-in number.
