In recent years it has been reshaping into a leaner shareholder-return story — monetizing its stake in JX Advanced Metals, buying back stock, and lifting the dividend. The business and what to watch

The current name traces back to JX Holdings — formed by the merger of Nippon Oil and Nippon Mining Holdings and listed in 2010 — through JXTG Holdings, before it was renamed ENEOS Holdings in June 2020; the "ENEOS" brand predates that rename. The group spans refining and marketing, exploration and production (ENEOS Xplora), plus ENEOS Materials, Power and Renewable Energy.

The center of 2026 capital policy is JX Advanced Metals (5016). JX was once ENEOS's metals subsidiary, but it listed on the TSE Prime market on March 19, 2025 (ENEOS sold 50.1%, raising about ¥440 billion) and left consolidation. ENEOS has kept selling down: on June 18, 2026 it tendered into JX's own share buyback, receiving about ¥194.8 billion (a gain of roughly ¥86 billion expected in the year to March 2027), and its holding fell from 42.38% to 35.28% (as of July 15, 2026). ENEOS is the seller here; JX Advanced Metals itself is buying the shares, and JX is no longer an ENEOS subsidiary.

On earnings, the year to March 2026 (announced May 14, 2026) closed with revenue of ¥11.76 trillion (−4.5%) and net profit of ¥258.7 billion (+14.4%), a surprise swing back to profit growth after mid-year guidance had pointed lower. Guidance for the year to March 2027 is net profit of ¥415 billion (+60.4%), driven by the JX share-sale gain and Middle-East-linked crude strength. The dividend was ¥34 for the year to March 2026 (up ¥8) and is forecast flat at ¥34 next year — not another hike. On May 14, 2026 the company also decided a buyback of up to 82 million shares / ¥50 billion (May 21 to September 30, 2026, all to be cancelled). There are negatives too: group company ENEOS Wing was criminally accused by the Japan Fair Trade Commission on April 17, 2026 and indicted on April 27, 2026 over a diesel-price cartel, with ENEOS disclosing the indictment and a compliance rebuild.

How to read the stock

The stock recovered from a ¥590 low in April 2025 to close 2025 at ¥1,107, regained a 1.0x P/B in January 2026, and reached a multi-year high of ¥1,552 on March 2, 2026 before slipping back into a ¥1,180–1,300 range from June. The July 17, 2026 close was ¥1,243.5 (−2.39% that day), on a P/B of 0.99x, a forward P/E around 8x and a forecast dividend yield of 2.73%. Bulls point to the 60%-growth guidance, the shareholder-return policy and running buyback, the JX monetization war chest, and a cheap ~8x forward P/E. Bears note that next year's growth leans on a one-off JX share-sale gain and crude assumptions (the same lever ran in reverse for a −24% nine-month figure at Q3 of the year to March 2026), the structural decline in gasoline demand and the EV shift, Hormuz supply-disruption tail risk, and a dividend held flat at ¥34 despite the profit jump.
