SK Hynix CEO Predicts Memory Chip Shortage Will Last Until 2030

SK Hynix CEO Lee Seok-hee stated that the global memory chip shortage is expected to last until the end of 2030, with a low risk of oversupply. He pointed out that memory chips are no longer just standardized commodities in the AI era. Despite concerns about an AI investment bubble, there are no signs of oversupply risks or potential downturn cycles in memory chips, and demand from AI customers remains strong. Lee mentioned that challenges may arise if the peak of AI is surpassed or another downturn cycle occurs, but the next downturn will be different from the slumps experienced in the past few decades. It is expected that even if a downturn occurs, it will not be a sharp decline, but rather a gradual decrease in demand, which may even stabilize.
