Sber Forecasts Growth of Cryptocurrency Market in Russia to 7.5 Trillion Rubles by 2029
The cryptocurrency exchange market in Russia could grow to 3.5-4 trillion rubles in the first year after the launch of regulated trading, according to estimates from Sberbank. By 2029, the trading volume could reach 7.5 trillion rubles. Anatoly Popov, Deputy Chairman of Sberbank's Management Board, announced these calculations ahead of the Eastern Economic Forum. The estimate is based on the current turnover of operations by Russians with cryptocurrencies, which amounts to about 50 billion rubles per day. It is expected that 20% of the existing volume of operations will transition to a regulated environment in the first year. This will provide clearer rules, a transparent infrastructure, and the ability to work with digital assets through online services. Further growth will depend on the speed of the necessary infrastructure's emergence and the activity of professional participants. By 2028, the trading volume could reach 4.75-5.25 trillion rubles. The regulated format will change the logic of working with digital assets, including banking transactions and accounting for digital assets. The cryptocurrency market will remain a separate direction and will not replace the classical securities market.
