A criminal group is set to stand trial in the Donetsk region for the illegal extraction of 364 tons of coal. An underground mine in the Novodonetsk community was uncovered in the spring of 2026, and the case has been referred to court. The organizer of the operation was a resident of Kyiv, who was the head of a local LLC. Instead of conducting official geological studies, the official established an underground coal mining operation. To maintain secrecy, he recruited three accomplices and arranged a fictitious contract for mining work in the village of Kuritsyno. From December 2025 to February 2026, the participants in the scheme extracted coal from an unsealed ventilation shaft that was not intended for mining. The deputy organizer oversaw the processes, while the director and chief engineer of the contracting company provided the necessary equipment and workers for the scheme. The extracted coal was transported to the Dnipropetrovsk region for sale. Law enforcement uncovered the mine in March 2026, with the damage to the state amounting to over 10.7 million UAH.
