Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant May Shut Down in Ten Days, Warns IAEA

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant may completely lose its power supply in about ten days if the external power line is not restored or additional diesel fuel for emergency diesel generators is not delivered. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated that the current diesel fuel reserve is at a minimal level, sufficient for ten days. The last fuel delivery was in March, and the next one, scheduled for May, has been delayed due to hostilities. The IAEA has not been able to visit the fuel storage since March 2025. Grossi emphasized that without restoring power supply or additional diesel fuel deliveries, the plant could face a complete loss of power. The IAEA is also trying to negotiate a local ceasefire to repair the power line. This week, there were three drone incidents at the plant, one of which resulted in injuries to two staff members. The radiation background at the plant remains normal. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, seized by Russian troops in March 2022, is not generating electricity and relies on external power lines.
