Wall Street Retreats After S&P 500 Record, Oil Rises 5% Weekly
Wall Street indices showed a slight decline this Friday, after the S&P 500 reached a new all-time high. The S&P 500 fell by 0.06%, the Nasdaq Composite decreased by 0.19%, and the Dow Jones dropped by 0.16%. The biggest gainers in the S&P 500 were Copart (+6%), AMD (+4.2%), and Albemarle (+4.3%), while Godaddy (-5%), Broadcom (-5%), and Applied Materials (-4.7%) led the declines. On a weekly basis, the S&P 500 advanced by 0.48%, the Nasdaq rose by 0.25%, and the Dow Jones retreated by 0.52%. In Europe, the Euro Stoxx remained neutral, the German DAX rose by 0.57%, and the French CAC fell by 0.02%. In Asia, the Hang Seng dropped by 1.10%, the Shanghai Stock Exchange increased by 0.01%, the South Korean Kospi rose by 2.42%, and the Japanese Nikkei 225 advanced by 0.62%. Brent crude rose by 1.01% to $87.97 per barrel, and WTI crude increased by 0.71% to $81.81 per barrel, accumulating more than a 5% weekly increase. The U.S. warned of a possible indefinite naval blockade against Iran, intensifying economic pressure on Tehran. The yields on 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds rose by 0.62 points to 4.67%, near two-decade highs, and the dollar index fell by 0.42%.
