Tencent's Head of Multimodal Understanding Hu Han Departs, Tian Yonglong Takes Over VLM Development

Hu Han, the head of Tencent's Multimodal Understanding, has resigned to pursue entrepreneurship. Former OpenAI researcher Tian Yonglong will take over the development of the Visual Language Model (VLM) and will continue to report to Yao Shunyu. Hu Han joined Tencent in early 2025 from Microsoft Research Asia, participating in the Frontier research group of the large language model department and the development of world models. With Tian Yonglong taking over VLM, Hu Han's original team may shift its focus to world models.
