SoftBank Negotiates to Acquire Majority Stake in 1X for $6 Billion
SoftBank is in talks to acquire a majority stake in humanoid robot manufacturer 1X Technologies, which would value the company at approximately $6 billion. 1X is a startup backed by OpenAI, focusing on developing robots with flexible body designs aimed at assisting users with household chores. Founded 12 years ago, the company attempted to raise $1 billion at a $10 billion valuation but ultimately secured less than half of its target. SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son has long been interested in robotics development, believing that devices combining robotics and artificial intelligence will create the next trillion-dollar company. Last year, OpenAI and 1X discussed acquisition possibilities, but negotiations did not succeed.
