Scale AI has launched RSI Bench to test whether AI can conduct self-research like researchers. The AI will directly access papers, code, and computing power to conduct experiments, training, and method improvements to enhance the performance of existing AI. The first tests utilized Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol, both of which can autonomously conduct experiments, adjust parameters, and iterate on solutions, with some tasks surpassing the given baseline. However, current AI still struggles with innovation. In challenging the latest research, most attempts still rely on existing methods and parameter adjustments from published papers, with few truly new ideas being proposed.
