PayPal Restructures Virtual Asset Business Including PYUSD

PayPal is reorganizing into three business units. The virtual asset business will be integrated as a separate business pillar alongside payment processing infrastructure. On April 29, PayPal announced that it will divide its organization into △Checkout Solutions · PayPal △Consumer Financial Services · Venmo △Payment Services · Virtual Assets. The payment services and virtual assets business will include Braintree, payment processing for small and medium-sized enterprises, ancillary services, and virtual assets. This restructuring was initiated after Enrique Lores took office as President and CEO. Lores was appointed as President in an 8-K filing on February 3, with his term starting on March 1. In the restructuring announcement, Lores stated, "We need to align the company around three strong businesses, simplify our ways of working, and enhance accountability." PayPal is facing pressure from a slowdown in online payment growth and the expansion of competing services since the pandemic, announcing $8.68 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2026 on July 28. PayPal presented stablecoins and AI payment tools as key elements of its second-quarter strategy, but did not disclose separate figures for revenue, profit and loss, or transaction volume for its virtual asset business.
