Kraken Institutional and VerifiedX have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to add vBTC to Kraken's qualified custody solutions. This move could provide institutions with a regulated pathway to hold and use programmable Bitcoin. VerifiedX states that vBTC is fully backed by native Bitcoin and can be redeemed in BTC form through its protocol. The asset supports settlement, programmable vaults, and on-chain financial applications. The announcement emphasizes the combination of qualified custody with an institutional-focused structure, without providing a timeline or implementation steps, nor any additional details regarding the integration of vBTC into Kraken Institutional solutions. This MOU indicates an intention to bring institutional custody infrastructure closer to a programmable Bitcoin model, with vBTC seen as a proposal to expand the ways BTC can be held and used in an on-chain environment.
