Intel is enhancing its infrastructure strategy, which includes CPUs, advanced packaging, foundry, and system integration, in response to the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) inference. CEO Pat Gelsinger stated that the role of CPUs in data centers is increasing due to the rising demand for AI inference. The ratio of CPUs to GPUs was 1 to 8 in training environments, but it is approaching 1 to 1 in inference environments. On June 2, Intel highlighted the increased CPU share by announcing RackScale AI infrastructure in collaboration with SambaNova and Foxconn at Computex 2026. The RackScale infrastructure is designed for data center rack units, making power efficiency and deployment structure crucial due to the increase in AI inference services. Intel introduced a configuration that combines x86 CPUs with advanced packaging, which takes a different direction from NVIDIA's AI infrastructure. On June 18, the company appointed Lee Seok-hee as Senior Vice President of Foundry, also undergoing organizational restructuring. Intel reported revenues of $16.13 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $0.42 for the second quarter of 2026 on July 23. The revenue guidance for the third quarter was set between $15.8 billion and $16.8 billion, and the stock price rose by 6% following the earnings announcement. On August 10, Intel plans to expand its common stock offering size from $15 billion to $20 billion, issuing 210,526,315 shares.
