Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has unveiled an open source project called 'anthropies' that addresses the issue of AI-generated watermarking. The project aims to provide tools for identifying and processing watermarks and related markings that appear on outputs from Anthropic's Claude. Hoskinson announced the launch of anthropies on X at 9:04 AM KST on the 16th, and the tool is designed to be compatible with multiple large language models (LLMs). The project README distinguishes the targets for processing as statistical watermarks, C2PA content provenance, and the 'Co-Authored-By: Claude' signature. This project is related to the ongoing debate over developer control regarding the attribution of AI-generated outputs. Text watermarks are difficult for humans to recognize, but their presence can be inferred through statistical patterns. C2PA is a standard that embeds provenance and generation history into image files, allowing for content verification. However, the README states that it cannot completely avoid detection systems that Anthropic has not disclosed. This announcement can be viewed as an experiment addressing issues of authorship, watermarking, and contribution records that have arisen as AI tools enter development work, from the perspective of the Cardano ecosystem's developer culture and open source principles.
