Ethereum Foundation Supports WEBCAT Security Tool
Prefer us on GoogleThe Ethereum Foundation is supporting WEBCAT, a security tool that verifies the frontend code of wallets and decentralized applications (DApps). WEBCAT is an open-source tool developed by the Free Press Foundation that checks whether the code of a website matches user expectations. This tool has been classified as a security support project for the third quarter of 2026, although specific details regarding the grant size and payment conditions have not been disclosed. WEBCAT aims to reduce the risk of users believing they are accessing a legitimate site while inadvertently sending funds to a different address or signing unintended transactions. Currently, WEBCAT is in the experimental phase, and the alpha version may slow down webpage speeds or conflict with certain pages. The Ethereum Foundation is examining wallet user experience and frontend security in line with its 'Trillion Dollar Security' initiative announced in May 2025, and WEBCAT is one of the related projects. WEBCAT offers validation features in its alpha version for registered websites.
