Ethereum EIP-8148 Discusses Adjustment of Automatic Withdrawal Criteria from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH
A proposal known as EIP-8148 is being discussed, which allows validators to set the automatic withdrawal criteria for Ethereum (ETH) staking rewards themselves. This proposal enables the 0x02 compound validator to choose an automatic withdrawal threshold between 32 ETH and 2048 ETH. The current document status is 'Draft', with a creation date of February 5, 2026. The 0x02 validator will have rewards compounded up to 2048 ETH, with only the excess being automatically withdrawn. To withdraw rewards below 2048 ETH, a separate request is required. The new criteria must be at least equal to the current balance, and to lower the balance, a partial withdrawal must be made first. The automatic sweep is a procedure that moves excess amounts to the withdrawal address when the balance exceeds the threshold. EIP-8148 is based on EIP-7251 and EIP-7685, with a maximum processing limit of 16 transactions per block. The public discussion schedule includes a draft on February 6, EIP publication on February 11, and consensus-specs merging on June 2. The industry has a positive assessment that EIP-8148 could enhance reward liquidity, while also raising concerns about the utility versus complexity issue.
