Dubai Duty Free has launched Crypto.com Pay at its stores in Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport, as well as its online mall. The service is limited to residents of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Dubai Duty Free is the first regulated airport retailer in the Middle East to start accepting cryptocurrency payments. Customers can scan a QR code at the checkout or approve payments through the Crypto.com app on the online or mobile payment screen. While customers can pay with their digital assets held in the app, Dubai Duty Free does not hold cryptocurrencies directly, and payments are made in United Arab Emirates Dirhams (AED). This introduction follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Dubai Duty Free and Crypto.com in July 2025. Crypto.com announced that its UAE entity, Foris DAX Middle East FZE, obtained a Stored Value Facility (SVF) license from the UAE Central Bank on May 11, 2026. Dubai Duty Free operates digital payment methods such as Apple Pay, Alipay, and TerraPay, with revenue in 2025 reaching 8.68 billion Dirhams, equivalent to 2.378 billion dollars. The Dubai government plans to transition 90% of government and private sector transactions to cashless methods by 2026.
