The positions of the United States and Brussels regarding the European Union's participation in sanctions against Iran have diverged. The US claimed the EU's official joining, while EU documents expressed support and willingness to cooperate with the US-led pressure. On the 3rd, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bencik announced that the EU has officially joined Operation Economic Outcast. He stated that they would work alongside allies to ensure that the Iranian regime cannot utilize the international financial system. The European External Action Service mentioned in a statement on August 31 that it welcomes additional economic pressure, including US-led operations, while referring to Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs and regional destabilization issues. However, the statement did not include wording indicating that the EU officially joined the US operations. Euronews reported that Brussels did not announce new sanctions and there was no announcement regarding the alignment of US sanctions with the EU sanctions framework. Operation Economic Outcast is an economic pressure campaign against Iran announced by the Trump administration, which includes digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping sectors. This issue is also related to the South Korean virtual asset market, and if digital assets are included in the risk areas of sanctions, exchanges and over-the-counter brokers will need to scrutinize transactions related to Iran more strictly. The pressure against Iran is manifesting in finance and oil transportation routes, with Iran's oil loading volume decreasing to about 260,000 barrels per day. This is a significant reduction compared to about 1.7 million barrels per day a year ago. Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, criticized the EU for riding on the coattails of the US's illegal economic war.
