A physical Bitcoin coin from Casascius was auctioned for $91,500 on July 26 by Heritage Auctions. Minted in 2013, the coin contains the private key that grants access to 1 Bitcoin, currently valued at $64,000. The buyer paid a premium of $27,500, about 43% more than its face value. Production was halted in 2013 due to a government order, making them rare and sought after. The auctioned coin belongs to 'Series 2' from 2013, with a mintage of 8,352 units, made of brass and weighing 6.8 grams. The stored Bitcoin may also entitle the owner to values from forks such as Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold. The coin received 43 bids before being sold. In 2013, its value was only $92, but it surpassed $126,250 in October 2025, a 1,372-fold increase.
