Bank of America Operates AI Model Performance and Cost Comparison Tracker

Bank of America is operating an internal AI model tracker that compares the performance and costs of large language models. This tracker indicates a shift in focus from model performance to operational cost management. According to the Q2 presentation materials, approximately 200,000 active users generate over 400,000 prompts daily, and the number of approved AI and machine learning use cases has exceeded 300. Of the 114 generative AI use cases currently in operation, 34 are in full deployment. Chairman Brian Moynihan emphasized that AI is not a new concept for Bank of America, noting that the AI assistant Erica, launched in 2018, has been used approximately 200 million times by 20 million users by Q4 2025. The selection of AI models is shifting from a preference of the tech team to a matter of procurement, budget, and internal controls. Anthropic's Claude 1 is priced at $5 for input based on 1 million tokens and $25 for output. FinOps is an operational management approach that measures and controls cloud and AI infrastructure costs, requiring large organizations to manage departmental usage and cost allocation. It remains uncertain whether Bank of America's internal tracker will be made public, but it has been confirmed that the scale of AI utilization has entered the operational phase.
